Clinical Experience & Patient Care Approach
Dr. Merriel treats patients like family. He is straightforward and does not try to oversell. He takes a relaxed approach and educates patients so they can make their own decisions without feeling pressured. He does not just explain what chiropractic does. He also takes time to discuss proper diet, gives patients exercises to do at home, and reviews their daily habits and lifestyle as part of their care.
The goal is to teach patients how to take better care of themselves. In his view, it is easier to maintain health than to regain it. Dr. Merriel also takes a gentle approach with adjustments. He has been practicing for a long time and does not use forceful adjustments when unnecessary.
For patients who are nervous about adjustments or dislike hearing pops and cracks, he uses instrument-based options instead.
Specialized Training in Chiropractic Care
After graduating, Dr. Merriel completed Webster certification, which focuses on treating pregnant women and preparing the hips for childbirth. He has educated himself continuously since graduating.
Every morning, before the day starts, Dr. Merriel watches and reads to learn something new. His broad interests help him connect with patients from all different walks of life.
What Inspired Dr. Merriel to Become a Chiropractor
In sixth grade, Dr. Merriel spent a summer shadowing a veterinarian through a connection his father, a police officer, had in town. He enjoyed it, but severe animal allergies made that path impossible. In high school, he was not sure where he was headed. His stepfather pointed him toward nursing, so he enrolled at Bloomfield College in North Jersey.
By his third year, he realized hospital work was not the right fit for him. He found it difficult to see patients in such poor condition day after day.
That summer, he went to the library and started reading about chiropractic. He had never been a chiropractic patient, but the philosophy resonated with him immediately. The idea of using the body’s ability to heal itself when given the opportunity was something he strongly connected with. He also always wanted to work with his hands and never saw himself sitting at a desk all day.
His school had a pre-chiropractic program guided by Dr. Ventamiglia, and after taking several classes with him, he was certain chiropractic was the right direction. He applied to New York Chiropractic College, the only school he applied to, and graduated in 2000.
Inspiration & Motivation in Chiropractic Care
Dr. Merriel enjoys helping patients get back to the things they were not physically able to do before coming in. He also values meeting people from all different walks of life, which he finds genuinely interesting.
He grew up playing baseball, soccer, and football.
